Chief Financial Officer

The Chief Financial Officer will be a trusted advisor of the Executive Director and Artistic Director and is responsible for ensuring that the Joffrey maximizes all of its resources in support of the fulfillment of the Joffrey’s mission. This individual will provide significant leadership in institutional operations for a world class ballet company, Academy of Dance and Community Engagement programs. 


This individual oversees the administrative, financial, facilities, information systems; helps direct the Joffrey’s long and short-range strategic planning; ensures that all business and support areas of the Joffrey are properly coordinated with programmatic areas through close interaction with the senior management team; works closely with appropriate board committees, members of the Board of Directors and other volunteers in implementing governance strategies and performs other executive leadership duties. Financial responsibilities include reporting, evaluation and analysis, internal controls, financial planning, department management, and other support services to departments within the Joffrey.


The Chief Financial Officer will be responsible for strategic management in the areas of finance, facility operations and information technology with four direct reports (Controller, Director of Facility Operations, Director of Technology and Administrative Assistant).


QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

CPA or MBA or equivalent experience required. Minimum ten years senior management experience in total, several in not-for-profit, preferably a cultural institution. Demonstrated expertise in financial reporting and analysis, facilities management, risk management, information systems, as well as extensive background with oversight of contributed and earned income activities. Substantive experience in finance and accounting for 501(C)(3) organizations, excellent command of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and ability to manage a complex operation.

Director of Human Resources

The Director of Human Resources will provide overall HR leadership; collaborate with the Executive Director along with the Senior Leadership team and staff to develop and implement HR initiatives focused on creating a culture of engagement, inclusion, and excellence. The Director of HR manages the day‐to‐day operations of the Human Resources office and the administration of the human resources policies, procedures, and programs. The Joffrey Ballet has a budget of over $20 million and a total staff of 260, including 100 full-time, 100part-time, and 60 independent contractors.


This individual carries out responsibilities in the following functional areas: departmental development, talent management system, recruitment/selection, onboarding, employee engagement, performance management, employee recognition, employee relations, benefits, compensation, employment law and collective bargaining agreement compliance, policy and procedure development, employee relations, staff development, and off boarding. The Director of Human Resources also chairs the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion committee and oversees the Volunteer and Internship programs.  


QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelors degree in Human Resources, Organizational Management, or equivalent work experience required. PHR/SPHR or SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP certification preferred. A seasoned and mature leader with at least 5 years of experience in a human resource position. Excellent organizational skills and the ability to anticipate needs and proactively act on them, keen attention to detail, and the ability to work independently is required. Ability to establish collaborative relationships at all levels to identify needs and deliver solutions that achieve employee, department, and organizational goals. Ability to communicate complex or sensitive information in a clear manner. Proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion. Must possess strong computer skills, excellent written and oral communications, and the ability to manage multiple projects. Must have a solid commitment towards diversity, inclusion, and equity.

Academy Part-Time Faculty Member

The Joffrey Academy of Dance, Official School of The Joffrey Ballet is continually seeking talented, experienced classical ballet teachers for part-time faculty positions. Faculty members are responsible for teaching anywhere from 1-20 hours per week in the Academy's Children's, Youth, Adult and/or Pre-Professional Divisions. Part-Time Faculty members work closely with the Academy Artistic Directors to maintain the Joffrey Academy’s syllabus and uphold the artistic excellence for the Joffrey Academy. Part-Time Faculty members are expected to adhere to the policies and procedures of the Joffrey Academy of Dance. 


Responsibilities include; prepare and teach ballet, pointe, and classical repertoire classes at the Joffrey Academy of Dance, as scheduled by the Academy Staff, maintain a strong knowledge and understanding of the Joffrey Academy syllabus, serve on the substitute list for ballet classes, as availability permits, complete student evaluation forms for students in the Fall and Spring semesters, maintain a positive and structured classroom environment, teach private lessons, as needed and as availability permits, communicate regularly with Academy Artistic Staff and Faculty, Academy Administration, and other Joffrey Ballet staff members, meet with Artistic Staff and students/families, as needed, attend faculty meetings throughout the year, as availability permits, and complete paperwork and input payroll hours, as needed.


QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS:
2-5 years, minimum, teaching experience in classical ballet
Must have a strong technical background in classical ballet 
Work exceptionally well with young students
Have a desire to learn the Joffrey Academy’s syllabus
Enjoy working in a collaborative environment as a team player
Be able to take constructive feedback to achieve high artistic standards

 

WORK SCHEDULE: 
Schedule will be mutually agreed upon by the Joffrey Academy and the Faculty Member. Hours primarily after 4pm on weekdays and 9am-3pm on weekends. Teaching schedule may vary each semester.

Community Engagement Part Time Business Administrator

The Community Engagement Business Administrator will assist the Community Engagement Manager with the business management of the Joffrey Community Engagement (CE) programs. This position is primarily responsible for data collection and communications related to the CE programs. This part-time position handles program management for all CE programs. 

  

The Community Engagement Business Administrator works with the Community Engagement Manager on all responsibilities related to communications, operations, data, development, and coordination of productions. The Community Engagement Business Administrator will be available to assist at all Community Engagement performances, productions, and events.


QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
 
A working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Excel, Outlook, and Word. Microsoft Publisher preferred. Must possess strong communication and organizational skills. Professional manner, critical thinking, self-motivation, the ability to manage multiple projects and work in a fast-paced environment are essential. Awareness of arts education organizations in Chicago. Prior experience with Chicago Public Schools and Arts Curriculum is preferred. Bachelor degree and experience in a not-for-profit arts organization is preferred. Must have a solid commitment towards diversity, inclusion, and equity.

Community Engagement Part-Time Faculty Member

The Community Engagement Teaching Artist reports directly to the Director of Community Engagement and is responsible for planning, implementation, and instruction of educational programs in accordance with the syllabi established by the CE staff.  The CE Teaching Artists must work closely with CE staff as well as teachers and coordinators at the schools or organizations where the programs are taking place.


Responsibilities include but are not limited to;  read, understand and properly deliver material from a syllabus, instruct students in a manner that is interesting and keeps them engaged throughout the class , maintain constant and clear communication with the teachers or coordinators at the school or organization where the program is being facilitated, maintain constant and clear communication with CE staff to ensure they are always aware of how the program is running and able to assist if necessary, complete forms and paperwork in a thorough and timely fashion according to set deadlines, attend meetings and workshops to complete the training required for teaching various syllabi, prepare materials in advance of classes for distributing to students, travel and arrive on time at various locations throughout Chicago where programs are held, use e-mail as needed from personal computer.


QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS:

Professional dance experience required, undergraduate degree recommended.  Must have 3-5 years of performance, coaching and teaching experience in the area of dance.  In addition to choreographic and improvisational skills, must have extensive knowledge of a variety of dance styles.  Must have experience in working with children in a public school setting.  Strong communication, presentation and group management skills are recommended.  Strong organizational skills and computer skills, and excellent writing and oral skills are recommended.  Should be able to think quickly and creatively and adapt to new situations in a fast-paced environment.

Season Ticket Sales Agent
